This video is fun, easy, and teaches you a clever application of the Blended Edge and Grid Cutters allowing you to achieve the look of a woven border using your favorite digital papers.

### **Video Notes** Objective: Use the grid cutter and the blended edge cutter to make it look like you have woven together two different papers.

Choose two papers that you'd like to use to make your woven border. At least one of papers should be solid (not patterned).
From content panel, add one of your chosen papers to the page.
- If one of your papers is a patterned paper, add this one first.
- NOTE: Do not make this paper a background.
From the content panel, locate your second paper and on the drop down arrow, choose 'Cut a new shape'.
- Using the rectangle cutter, cut a vertical strip of paper about 4" wide. Click OK.
Position the cut paper about 1/2" from the left side of the page and make sure it is flush with the top and bottom of the page.
With the cut paper selected, go to the Cut ribbon > Grid.
- Make the grid 5 segments wide by 1 segment high.
- Set the spacing between the grid at 3/16" and click OK.
While all five resulting strips are selected, go to the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar)
- Add a thin (0.5 pt) stroke to all strips.
- Fill the stroke with color, sampling the color of the paper.
  - Go to HSB (Hue Saturation Brightness) button and decrease brightness slightly.
  - Click OK.
In the elements panel, lock these five strips by clicking the padlock icon to the left of each strip.
In the elements panel, select the patterned paper.
- Go to the Cut ribbon > Shapes
- Using the rectangle cutter, select an area of the paper that is 12" wide by 5" high.
- Position the cutter about 1/2" from the top or the bottom of the page, depending on where you want the border.
- In the operations panel, make sure you have the appropriate selection chosen, then click Copy.
- Back in the elements panel, hide the full sheet of patterned paper.
Select the copied section of the patterned paper and go to the Cut ribbon > Grid.
- Select a grid pattern that is 5 segments high by 1 segment wide.
- Set the spacing at zero and click OK.
With all horizontal strips selected, add a stroke to the strips as before.
- Sample a dominant color in the pattern if using a patterned paper, or use a light gray stroke.
- Increase the stroke line to 1 pt if you cannot see it at 0.5 pt.
With all horizontal strips selected, go to the Cut ribbon > Straight > Blended edge
- Position and size the blended edge cutter between the first two vertical strips.
- In the operations panel, choose 'Keep both areas' and cut.
- Without de-selecting any of your strips, go back to the Cut ribbon > Straight > Blended edge and repeat the process, this time positioning the cutter between the second and third vertical strips. Remember to keep both areas!
- Repeat this step until you have cut all of the strips.
You should have several columns of small boxes now. Starting with the first column, hold down the shift key and select every other segment.
- Right click > Order > Move to front
- On the second column, repeat this step with alternating strips.
  - Since vertical strips are locked, you can click directly on them to select the segments right behind them.
  - Right click > Order > Move to front.
- Repeat these steps until all of the columns covering the vertical strips are complete.
On the elements panel, un-hide the original paper and watch everything fall into place!
Unlock the vertical strips and add a light shadow to them to add dimension.
- You may not want to apply a shadow to the blended segments - try it and then decide if you like that look.
Build your page as desired, tucking elements into the strips by using the elements panel to get things positioned correctly.
- Add shadows to the embellishments.
