Finding Family in Forgotten Photos

I’m the family historian and the keeper of our family photos. Recently, a relative on my mother’s side sent me a stack of very old pictures she discovered in her own mother’s closet. Most of them, of course, had no notes about who was in the photos. But two stood out – one had “1908” written on the back, and another read “Dec. 26, 1927, On Goose Pond.”
I knew where Goose Pond was, and I knew which side of the family these photos came from, so I had a general idea of which relatives to look for. Still, I didn’t recognize anyone in the Goose Pond picture and could only identify a couple of faces in the other. I shared them with my mom, and she agreed – we were stumped.
FOREVER® digitized several of the photos for me, and I included these two in hopes that seeing them larger on my screen might spark a memory. When the digitized files came back – BOOM! FOREVER Facial Recognition identified twelve people in one photo and five in the other! One of them was my grandfather as a very young man, and another was my great-grandmother as a young woman. And once the names appeared, it was suddenly obvious: “Of course that’s who that is!”
It felt like Christmas morning. I was so grateful that I had these photos digitized and even more thankful for Facial Recognition. Without it, these identities (and these family stories) might have been lost to time.
I love FOREVER Digitization and FOREVER Facial Recognition so much!
