Digitization

From Past to Pixel: Employee Digitization Reflections

By FOREVER

Hello and welcome to this week's FOREVER Digitization Connection! Recently, we asked some of our Production Team Members at the FOREVER Digitization Facility to share their experience of getting their own personal memories digitized. Here's what they had to say:

Jonah C. (Operations Associate) - "I brought my home movies to FOREVER to be digitized (VHS and VHS-C tapes), and it was incredible to see so many faces of loved ones who are no longer with us — especially my grandfather, who passed away when I was 15. I had forgotten what his voice sounded like until I rewatched one of the digitized home movies. Having that memory back will always feel special to me."

Debbie G. (Manager of Retail and Client Outreach) - "I don’t know if I can pick a favorite thing that I've had digitized. I love watching my now-grown children as little kids — it brings me back to such a wonderful time in life. I love watching my wedding video from 36 years ago, seeing so many loved ones who have passed, walking and talking again. It takes me back to that very fun day. Maybe it’s the stories my kids wrote, scanned into my account, that I can read and smile at. Or it might be the photos from all the amazing trips we’ve taken with our kids and friends. They're all my favorite, because having it all at my fingertips allows me to create, restore, or simply enjoy them as they are. I love everything FOREVER offers."

Nick H. (Operations Associate) - "One of the videotapes I had digitized that means so much to me was a news segment about the adoption of my sister and me from Russia in 1999. It featured an interview with my parents, discussing the hardships they faced to get to Russia and bring us home, along with some footage of us as babies. I actually had no idea this segment existed until my godmother mentioned it — she had taped it. It means a lot to me because, at the time, there was no other way that segment would have been saved; it could have easily been taped over. I'm so glad I was able to digitize and save the converted clip, instead of relying on a single VHS tape that could deteriorate and be lost over time."

Amanda B. (Associate Manager of Logistics) - "I had many of my mother's scrapbook albums of my brother and me scanned at FOREVER. We’re both so grateful knowing her pages are now preserved online for years to come. I love looking through the images during birthdays and holidays, reminiscing about all the fun times my brother and I had as kids."

Gwenna Y. (Assistant Manager of Production) - "When I digitized my grandparents' honeymoon slides, I was able to share photos with family that we had never seen before. Now, we have these cherished images to show to all our loved ones. Until a few years ago, I didn’t even know what slides were, but then my grandparents sent me their old ones without really knowing what was on them. To their surprise—and mine—I was able to share forgotten memories from so many years ago."
