Why Relying on Free Social Media Platforms Isn’t Enough

By FOREVER

Have you gone back recently to watch a Facebook Live video you created, only to realize it’s been deleted?

If you haven’t experienced it yet, it could be affecting you soon.

Facebook announced that beginning February 19, 2025, “Facebook Live videos will be kept on your Facebook Page or profile for 30 days after they’re published, during which you can share replays or clips as reels, delete, or download the videos. After the 30 days, you’ll no longer be able to access your video, and it’ll be automatically removed from your Page or profile and deleted from Meta servers.” In other words, unless you take specific action, your Facebook Live videos will disappear in a month.

Also, as a part of Facebook’s storage policy, “any Live videos published before February 19 will be made available for you to download until June 21. After that, any existing Live videos published before February 19 will be deleted from your Page or profile.

This change is just the latest reminder of a hard truth: free platforms are not designed to be permanent homes for your memories.

Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are good for sharing content at the moment, but when it comes to preserving your memories, they fall short. And because you don’t pay to use these platforms, you don’t own your experience.

We’ve talked about this in a previous blog post, but it’s worth repeating - you can’t count on free platforms to be your digital safety net.

With FOREVER Storage® and added Video Streaming, we believe your memories deserve more – a permanent, secure, private home for your photos, videos, audio, and documents.

Don’t wait until your videos disappear to start protecting them. If you have Facebook Live videos, or any other photos and videos for that matter, now is the time to download them and upload them to FOREVER Storage. It’s easy, it’s safe, and most importantly, it’s yours.
