Step 1: Gathering Files from your Old Device or Back Up!

This training video will walk you through the process of gathering the important files you will need for Artisan to work properly on your new computer.
Your ability to successfully transfer your FOREVER Artisan experience depends largely on the quality of your backups and how organized your content is. "NOW" is always the best time to back up your files and tidy things up—it will make the entire process smoother and stress-free.

  1. Close Artisan, if open.

    1. Open two Windows File Explorer Windows and put them side by side.

      1. In the first window, navigate to your External Hard Drive.
      2. Your second window will be used to navigate to the places in the next steps.

    2. Gather your Fonts.

      1. Navigate to C:\Windows and select the Fonts folder.
      2. Drag the folder over to the Windows File Explorer window with your External Hard Drive. Note: If the file says "Move" instead of "Copy" when you are dragging, hold down the CTRL key before releasing to Copy.

    3. Gather your Digital Art.

      1. Navigate to C:\Users\Public\Documents and select the Commercial Art Kits folder.
      2. Drag the folder over to the Windows File Explorer window with your External Hard Drive. Note: If the file says "Move" instead of "Copy" when you are dragging, hold down the CTRL key before releasing to Copy.
      3. If you have Personal Art Kits, navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\Documents and select the Personal Art Kits folder.
      4. Drag the folder over to the Windows File Explorer window with your External Hard Drive. Note: If the file says "Move" instead of "Copy" when you are dragging, hold down the CTRL key before releasing to Copy.
      5. If you have content saved in other locations, navigate to each of those locations and select the folder containing the digital art.
      6. Drag the folder over to the Windows File Explorer window with your External Hard Drive. Note: If the file says "Move" instead of "Copy" when you are dragging, hold down the CTRL key before releasing to Copy.

    4. Gather your AppData.

      1. Navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\App Data\ Roaming\Forever\Artisan 6. Note: App Data is a hidden folder. Go to View> Show> Hidden Items if you do not see this folder.
      2. Go to View and change your view to the Details view. Click the header to sort by file type.
      3. Copy the following XML files to your External Hard Drive: UserSettings.xml, KitFolders.xml, Keywords.xml, fontcatalog.xml, CustomPageProjects.xml, ContentLicenses.xml
      4. Copy the following folder to your External Hard Drive: Dates

    5. Gather your Projects.

      1. Navigate to C:\Users\[User Name]\Documents and drag your Artisan Projects folder onto your External Hard Drive.
      2. Repeate for Projects saved in different locations.
